Amber Aoud Review

Roja Dove said the following about Amber Aoud:

Many of the Gum Resins which have been used in perfumery for millennia originate from the Middle East. I took these materials and blended them with the exotic note of Aoud to create a scent which is both soft and sensual.

He’s most definitely not wrong as Amber Aoud opens to a spicy incense fragrance with floral hints that starts off quite feminine but this unisex fragrance becomes more masculine in its dry-down despite the Rose de Mai becoming more prominent.

The woody full bodied smell just projects off your skin and the dry down was much calmer on that Middle Eastern opening that whilst beautiful was certainly not to my taste initially.

Amber Aoud is a very intimate fragrance and the Oud with the other note variety make it smell very expensive and that’s because it is.

£595 for 100ml to be exact. Not a price I’d usually pay for a fragrance but this is certainly not just any old fragrance.

Roja Dove creates absolute masterpieces and still to this day his £2500 a bottle Haute Luxe is one of the most decadent and beautiful things I’ve ever smelled in my life.

It’s clear to see that Roja spent many a year in the Middle East to fully become a craftsman of the old material and the dense dry down has me sniffing my arm hours later into an already impressive longevity of 7 hours and counting.

Many say that Amber Aoud has a citrus opening but I didn’t get that and I’m rather happy I didn’t, I’m not a big fan of a citrus opening (it’s too furniture cleaner for my liking) so I’m ever so glad the Rose de Mai, fig and ylang-ylang took centre stage in this one.

An animalistic oud lingers in the dry down and it’s all so very sexy with a spicy cinnamon wafting across my nostrils occasionally.

This is a premium oud scent at its finest and worth every single penny of its steep price tag.

A little too sweet in the opening for my masculine taste but give it some time and it really warms up.
