After the Oud experience with Roja’s Amber Aoud I had to get another one! Here’s my Tom Ford Oud Wood review.
Oud is one of the most rare and expensive ingredients that a perfumer can purchase.
Oud wood is often burned in incense-filled temples.
This raw material is derived from the tropical agar tree which can be found growing in the Middle East. When the tree becomes infected by a mould the tree products a dark and fragrant resin to protect itself.
The resin embedded in the tree that is the oud. The agar tree is one of the most expensive timbers in the world but due to high demand it has been declared a threatened species so agar trees are being grown in other areas of the world to keep up with demand. This is why oud is so expensive.
Oud has that woody, smoky and sometimes even a dampness smell to it but it was not apparent in Roja’s Amber Aoud nor is it apparent in Tom Ford’s Oud Wood.
Tom Ford has created a well-rounded fragrance that is in no way harsh like an oud usually is.
This fragrance has a smooth delivery but has a regal almost older quality to it which would suit the older gentleman.
It oozes a sophistication that my 30 year old self just can’t pull off.

The notes in Tom Ford’s Oud Wood are as follows:
Top Notes
Brazilian Rosewood, Cardamom, Sichuan Pepper
Heart Notes
Sandalwood, Vetiver, Agarwood (Oud)
Base Notes
Amber, Vanilla, Tonka Bean
This fragrance was released in 2007 and has became one of the most popular Tom Ford fragrances as an affordable oud scent.
Priced at £178 for 50ml or £254 for 100ml this is certainly one of the better oud fragrances out there according to reviews.
Naturally, with this being only the second oud fragrance I’ve experienced I can’t personally comment on others out there but the sweetness that Amber Aoud drived home just isn’t here in Oud Wood.
It’s direct and to the point and has this very button and tie feel about it.
The bottles are elegantly designed like chess pieces and certainly look the part on any shelf or perfume display and the sleek bottle sophistication perfectly describes the scent inside.
